Reading a new book this week called “UNREASONABLE HOSPITALITY: The Remarkable Power of Giving People MORE Than They Expect!”
It was a recommendation from a friend/leader/reader who is a second-generation (and extremely successful) Dealer. Just hearing the title made me curious to see what was inside.

What’s “UNREASONABLE” Hospitality?
A long-time friend and client of mine is always looking for new ways to market and grow his business. And the one question we always end up talking about is…
“How did they FEEL when they left?”
This book confirms the VALUE of this question when the author talks about another great principle—
“Service is in black & white, but HOSPITALITY is IN COLOR!”
What does that mean?
Simple. The HUGE difference between the two and the impression that one makes upon the guest/customer is just this— “Black & White” means you’re doing your job. Competent. Efficient.
It reminds me of the worst question in hospitality that we’ve all heard… “Was everything OK?” Ugh. OK? That’s what you’re shooting for?
Why not just ask “Hey we’re not the WORST place you’ve ever eaten (bought a car, etc.) are we?”
HOSPITALITY in COLOR means HOW DID THEY FEEL? During…and after, about the job you’re doing for them? Because people will NEVER FORGET how you made them FEEL!
Leaders are READERS. It’s an irrefutable fact. Because LEADERS are LEARNERS. Leaders are LISTENERS, and eventually Leaders will be asked…
“What DO YOU THINK?”
Here’s to being UNREASONABLE…and UNCOMMON!
